Designed to make the most of your time in Ketchikan. You can book your Ketchikan fishing trip directly with us if you are visiting town via these Cruise Line operators: Holland America, Celebrity Cruises, Princess Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Cruise West, Carnival Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean.
The Pathfinder is inspected each year by the U.S. Coast Guard. This insures the vessel operations adhere to their high standards. I carry the maximum insurance coverage as required by the major cruise ship companies.
Booking directly with me often provides more flexibility in our fishing schedule. The cost for a 4-5 hour trip is $160 per person with a 4 person minimum (smaller groups can be accommodated, but the per person cost might change). My vessel, the Pathfinder, can comfortably fish a maximum of six adults.
Your fishing trip begins just a short walk from where your ship docks in Ketchikan. I will meet you at your Gangwayand after a few short minutes you will be enjoying hot fresh ground coffee on a clean vessel tha is ready to fish. It is a quick trip to our fishing areas which provides more time to fish and to see more of Alaska's incredible wildlife. The Ketchikan area has more bald eagles than anywhere else in the world, as well as humpback whales, killer whales, porpoise, sea lions, and seals.
All fishing gear, bait, and tackle are supplied. You should wear warm clothes in layers, our weather is in the 50’s and can be very moist. You can bring your own rain gear if you like, or use the rain gear we have aboard the boat. Be assured that occaisionally we have some great weather.You can bring your own food and beverages if you wish, alcoholic beverages are allowed but not advised.
The same trip booked on board typically costs $200 per person for a 4 hour trip- which is run on a tighter schedule. For a party of six passengers this is $1,200 as opposed to $960 if booked directly or even as low as $725 with our Preseason-Postseason special(and remember no round trip cab fare of $70.00 [without gratuity]). Fishing licenses and King Salmon stamp not included, but can be purchased aboard my vessels or online.
Deposit: A deposit* of $50 per person is due upon reservation.
*Not included, Alaska Fishing License and King Salmon Stamp or Ketchikan Sales tax 6%.
*Deposits are nonrefundable(Unless trip cancelled due to weather).

You’re Catch:
Some folks prefer to catch and release their fish. Most choose to keep their fish for processing and have it shipped home. After pictures of you and your catch, your fish will be immediately placed in ice. Processing your fish can be arranged through the Cedars Lodge, and a list of their services is available aboard our vessels. Final product will be frozen fresh, smoked, or a mixture of both.

Pacific salmon species belong to the genus Oncorhynchus, some examples include;
- Cherry salmon (Oncorhynchus masu or O. masou) is found only in the western Pacific Ocean in Japan, Korea and Russia and also landlocked in central Taiwan's Chi Chia Wan Stream.
- Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) is also known in the USA as King or Blackmouth Salmon, and as Spring Salmon in British Columbia. Chinook are the largest of all Pacific salmon, frequently exceeding 30 lb (14 kg). The name Tyee means Chinook over 30 pounds in British Columbia. Chinook salmon are known to range as far north as the Mackenzie River and Kugluktuk in the central Canadian arctic.
- Chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) is known as Dog or Calico salmon in some parts of the USA. This species has the widest geographic range of the Pacific species: south to the Sacramento River in California in the eastern Pacific and the island of Kyūshū in the Sea of Japan in the western Pacific; north to the Mackenzie River in Canada in the east and to the Lena River in Siberia in the west.
- Coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) is also known in the USA as Silver salmon. This species is found throughout the coastal waters of Alaska and British Columbia and up most clear-running streams and rivers. It is also now known to occur, albeit infrequently, in the Mackenzie River.
- Pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha), known as humpies in south east Alaska, are found from northern California and Korea, throughout the northern Pacific, and from the Mackenzie River in Canada to the Lena River in Siberia, usually in shorter coastal streams. It is the smallest of the Pacific species, with an average weight of 3.5 lb (1.6 kg) to 4 lb (1.8 kg).
- Sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) is known in the USA as Red salmon. This lake-rearing species is found south as far as the Klamath River in California in the eastern Pacific and northern Hokkaidō Island in Japan in the western Pacific and as far north as Bathurst Inlet in the Canadian Arctic in the east and the Anadyr River in Siberia in the west. Although most adult Pacific salmon feed on small fish, shrimp and squid; sockeye feed on plankton that they filter through gill rakers.
